Particularly if it occurs on the palms or soles and is very irritated, small cuts and splits of the skin can occur and this can lead to stinging. Sometimes psoriasis can occur in the flexural surfaces of the body which includes the genitals and also the armpits. Infrequently, this skin condition can be very extensive. For extensive areas, phototherapy and systemic therapy is prescribed. However, for the most severe cases, newer biological type treatments usually delivered via injection is used. However, there is strict government criteria to quality for use of these medications and patients need to be regularly monitored. Some patient with psoriasis also have psoriatic arthritis and are co-managed with a rheumatologist.
