Laser for facial capillaries, rosacea and vascular concerns

Traditional treatment using diathermy or thermolysis systems (electrosurgery) have been replaced by less painful, safer and more effective light therapies.

Our lasers deliver an intense but gentle burst of yellow light to selectively targeted areas of the skin, this may be the little blood vessel around the nose, spider veins, vascular lesions and red discoloration of your skin. The laser targets your blood vessels, heating them and causing them to collapse. A cooling spray accompanies the laser pulse to reduce pain from this process. Vascular lasers we have are the Candella V Beam (595nm), Aura (532nm) and Lyra (1064nm).

What conditions can be treated?
  • Redness of the face and neck
  • Broken capillaries
  • Spider naevi
  • Rosacea
  • Port wine stains
  • Early scars and red stretchmarks
  • Mild acne scarring
How many treatments are required?
Small red spots such as cherry angiomas usually disappear with one treatment. More extensive vessels on the face usually require additional treatments spaced a month apart.

Your doctor or clinician will discuss this thoroughly at your consultation.

What can I expect during treatment?
Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. Laser energy will be delivered precisely to the area of your skin being treated. You may briefly feel a warm or hot sensation as the laser pulses are absorbed by the unwanted vessels. The procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour depending on the size of the area to be treated.

The lasers cause a short stinging sensation in the skin. This may feel like being flicked with an elastic band or plucking a hair. The treated area may be slightly red, like mild sunburn.

Before Your Laser Treatment
It is really important to avoid direct sun exposure. It is always recommended to protect your skin with a sunscreen of 30 SPF before and after your laser treatment. Darker skin or sun-exposed skin may be susceptible to side effects if undergoing treatment. Please advise your doctor or clinician if you have had recent sun exposure before your treatment.

It is always best to discuss with your Doctor or clinician if you are on any sun sensitising medications.

After your laser treatment
Your skin will be temporarily pink and may feel like sunburned, but this will resolve over a few days. Small capillaries or cherry angiomas will become invisible almost immediately. Bruising may occur and usually resolves over 7 – 10 days. This can be covered by make up. There can also be swelling, particularly from treatment on the cheeks. This effect usually lasts from one to three days.

It is important to remember that you may not see the full effect of treatment for several weeks after the laser procedure.
