How dermal fillers Work?
As we age the production of collagen and elastin slows down, the dermis of the skin begins to thin, resulting in lack of volume, fine lines, wrinkles and folds.

Dermal fillers work by replacing the loss of volume and naturally plumping the affected areas.

Dermal fillers are made up of a synthetic form of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the body and is responsible for plumping and networking cells together.

Results are immediate.

Are dermal fillers safe?
Yes, fillers have a safety record spanning over two decades with very few complications.

The fillers most commonly used at Western Dermatology are made from a natural substance found in your skin called HA or hyaluronic acid. This means that side effects such as infection, skin reactions and allergies are reduced.

In some rare side effects of fillers including

  • Infection
  • Lumpiness at the injection sites (resolves within days)
  • Uneven contours
  • Intravascular injection
How long do dermal fillers last?
Depending on the type of filler, the effects can last anywhere from six months to two years.
How will I look after my filler treatment?
The results of fillers are instant! Normal activities can be resumed 24 hours after a filler- this includes fillers to the cheeks, around the eyes, temples and jaw line.
Swelling and bruising is usually minimal.
Lips may swell and will reduce within 24-48 hours.

To avoid bruising and swelling it is recommended to cease the use of fish oils, blood thinners, and anti-inflammatory medications.
